Swedish countess Marie Douglas-David claims that she needs more than $43 million to live on. To that end, Marie Douglas-David wants her estranged husband to pay her more than the $53,000 a week stipulated in their postnuptial agreement.

Marie Douglas-David, 36, and 67-year-old George David, who is the former chief executive at Hartford-based United Technologies Corp and has a net worth of $329 million, were married in 2002. By 2004, however, the marriage was on the skids, but not before the two drew up the aforementioned postnuptial agreement.

But Marie Douglas-David wants the agreement to be invalidated. It seems as though Marie Douglas-David has weekly expenses that exceed $53,000 and, in order to maintain the lifestyle to which she has become accustomed, she is demanding that George David pony up more dough.

In addition to maintaining her Park Avenue apartment and three homes in Sweden, Marie Douglas-David's expenses include $4,500 for clothing, $1,000 for hair and skin care, $1,500 for meals, and $8,000 for travel. At that rate, only $53,000 a week simply won't do. What's a poor girl to do?

One could argue that, given that we are in the throes of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, Marie Douglas-David's demand for more than $53,000 in living expenses is somewhat excessive.

But it also shows that some people are not quite feeling the pinch. Indeed, some people are still doing very well in this horrendous economy, thank you very much. And one gets the sense that Marie Douglas-David and her ilk ought not complain.

Marie Douglas-David should be glad she's not in Ruth Madoff's predicament. Ruth Madoff, who is the wife of disgraced Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff, has over $100 million dollars in assets. But if prosecutors have their way, they will leave Ruth Madoff with almost nothing, because they consider her assets to be the fruits of her husband's egregious crimes.

Perhaps Marie Douglas-David ought to just be happy with her measly $53,000 a week. Perhaps she ought to just count her many blessings.

LUCASVILLE, Ohio — A former truck driver who went on a multistate killing spree has been executed in Ohio for the murder of a Cincinnati-area man who gave him a ride in 1991.

Forty-five-year-old John Fautenberry of Oregon was pronounced dead at 10:37 a.m. Tuesday at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville.

Fautenberry was sentenced to death for the slaying of Joseph Daron Jr., who picked him up while he was hitchhiking on Feb. 17, 1991.

Fautenberry also confessed to killing a four people in three other states — Alaska, Oregon and New Jersey — during a five-month period in late 1990 and early 1991.

Fautenberry is the first inmate executed in Ohio since June 3.

Ohio has put 30 men to death since it reinstated the death penalty in 1999.

LUCASVILLE, Ohio (AP) — A man who confessed to slayings in four states spent his final hours watching television and meeting with a priest as he awaited execution Tuesday for murdering a man who gave him a ride near Cincinnati.

John Fautenberry is scheduled to die by lethal injection at 10 a.m. at the state prison in Lucasville. Fautenberry, a former Oregon truck driver, was sentenced to death for murdering Joseph Daron Jr., 46, of Milford, in February 1991.

Fautenberry gave up his right to a trial by jury in Cincinnati and pleaded no contest on July 23, 1992, to two counts each of aggravated murder and grand theft and one count of aggravated robbery.

Fautenberry confessed to killing a total of five people in four states — Alaska, Oregon, Ohio and New Jersey — during a five-month period in late 1990 and early 1991.

His attorney, Dennis Sipe, has argued that the state should pay a neuropsychologist to examine Fautenberry, whose last mental exam was 13 years ago. Sipe contends that Fautenberry should not be executed because he has brain damage from a childhood accident and from an injury while serving in the U.S. Navy.

“We make the argument that with a stale psychological survey done in 1996, we thought we needed an updated report to give the clemency process,” Sipe said Monday. “The Supreme Court said a defendant facing the death penalty was entitled to an attorney; that generally is taken to mean that you should be entitled to one that can effectively defend you, and that includes access to experts where needed.”

The U.S. Supreme Court denied Fautenberry’s request to delay his execution about an hour before the injection was to take place.

On Monday afternoon, Fautenberry was subdued, prisons spokeswoman Andrea Carson said. He ate eggs, toast and some of the fried potatoes he requested for his special meal, she said.

“He hasn’t really been engaged in a lot of conversation,” Carson said. “But he has been compliant.”

Fautenberry, 45, was offered several opportunities to phone his sister Monday evening but refused, Carson said. He fell asleep around 11:30 p.m. and slept until he was awakened by prison staff at 6 a.m. Tuesday.

His only visitors were his attorney and a Catholic priest with whom he spent several hours, Carson said.

The Ohio Board of Parole had voted unanimously to recommend that Gov. Ted Strickland deny clemency, which the governor did last week.

The Cincinnati-based 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals refused Friday to overturn a U.S. district court’s ruling denying a state-paid expert. Sipe immediately asked the district court to reconsider, and Judge James Graham in Columbus, Ohio, again rejected the argument on Saturday. The appeals court affirmed the district court’s decision Monday.

The U.S. Supreme Court denied a stay Tuesday without comment.

Fautenberry was transferred Monday from the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown to the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville, where state officials were preparing for his execution.

His special meal request was two eggs sunny-side up, fried potatoes, two pieces of fried bologna, four pieces of wheat bread, two pieces of wheat toast with butter, four slices of tomato, a side of lettuce and mayonnaise, two Three Musketeers candy bars and two packages of Reese’s peanut butter cups.

A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-300 aircraft made an emergency landing at Yeager Airport, Charleston, WV today after a hole in the fuselage caused a loss of cabin pressure. The aircraft, operating as Southwest Flight SWA 2294, was en route from Nashville International Airport to Baltimore-Washington International Airport at the time of the incident. The crew diverted to to Charleston, where the plane landed at about 6PM local time. There were no reports of injuries among the 133 people on board.

The passenger described the hole as "about the size of a football," and said that a "piece of the roof was kind of peeled back."

Once you get past the initial contrivance of how the body swap takes place, it turns into a thoroughly enjoyable mash-up of comedy and drama in a legal show setting. Brooke Elliot is really quite good in the role of size-two model stuck inside a plus-sized attorney.

Hung (HBO): New. A former colleague of Tanya agrees to help Ray with a practice run. Plays again later. The premiere episode was better than I thought it would be, so will give it a couple more episodes to see where it goes.

A flight attendant for American Airlines told the New Times, an alternative weekly, that the specially trained dog was aboard a plane originating in Miami and bound for Aruba.

The officer accompanying the dog reportedly told the airline employee that they were going to retrieve what was believed to be Holloway’s remains.

“They think they’ve found where Natalee Holloway’s remains are, and they’re taking the dog down there to confirm that,” the flight attendant told the paper. “They’re not telling anybody because Aruba’s trying to keep this quiet.”

No trace of Holloway has ever been found, despite extensive searches involving hundreds of volunteers, soldiers, FBI agents and even Dutch F-16 jets with special equipment.

Aruban investigators reopened the case last year based on the hidden-camera recordings made by Dutch television crime reporter Peter R. de Vries.

But judges rejected an attempt to re-arrest Van der Sloot for statements he made on the Dutch TV show. The hidden-camera recordings showed Van der Sloot saying he was with Holloway when she died on the Dutch Caribbean island and that he had a friend dump her body at sea.

Popular image hosting service ImageShack was hacked Friday evening (July 10) by a group calling itself Anti-Sec.

The Imageshack hack saw all images hosted on the service replaced by an image that detailed Anti-Sec’s manifesto. The group also distributed a copy of their manifesto to Imageshack’s users via the same email facility used to update Imageshack users with site updates and news.

Anti-Sec is calling on the security industry to stop the practice of full disclosure, the practice of publicly making available exploits and security vulnerabilities. According to the group, full disclosure is a scam that helps security companies sell software such as firewalls and anti-virus tools as the published exploits can and are used by script kiddies; that is the companies are purposely empowering those doing the wrong thing so as to create more fear and exploits as part of driving business for services that offer protection against these things.

There’s no official word from ImageShack yet as to when the service may return to normal, although at the time of writing parts of the site would appear to be working. Anti-Sec suggests in their manifesto that images on ImageShack have not been deleted.

A 3-alarm fire on the Throgs Neck Bridge closed all lanes in both directions, snarling the Friday morning commute.

Chopper 2 HD was over the scene of the bridge fire as traffic could be seen backed up for miles.

The fire, originating from a construction platform under the bridge, began just before 5 a.m.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels spokeswoman Catherine Sweeney says traffic is being diverted to the Bronx Whitestone and RFK bridges.

It appeared as though construction material on the Queens side of the bridge caught fire first. It is unknown what caused the blaze to break out.

There are 33 fire units with 130 firemen on the scene, including an FDNY marine boat to help with the fire from below the bridge.

The bridge connects the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx with the Bayside section of Queens. It was opened in 1961 and was built to relieve traffic on the adjacent Whitestone Bridge.

The fire broke out under the Queens side of the bridge sometime around 5 a.m., FDNY officials said. Officials first closed some lanes, but the New York State Department of Transportation said the entire bridge was closed by 6:30 a.m.

The bridge was expected to be closed at least four hours, according to the NYSDOT

U.S. stock futures were mixed on Wednesday morning, trading in a tight range as investors awaited results from Alcoa (NYSE: AA) this afternoon that kick off second quarter earnings season. Also making the headlines this morning is Google's (NASDAQ: GOOG) announcement of a challenge to Microsoft's (NASDAQ: MSFT) operating system as well as NRG Energy (NYSE: NRG) rejection of Exelon's revised hostile takeover bid of $8 billion in stock because it is undervalued.

Overseas, the same concerns over U.S. corporate profits weighed on stocks. World stock markets fell Wednesday amid mounting worries about the speed of any global economic recovery. In Asia, Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 stock average tumbled 227.04 points, or 2.4 percent, to 9,420.75 - its sixth fall in a row and its lowest close in six weeks. European markets followed suit, declining for the fifth straight session on Wednesday despite a report German industrial output surged the most in almost 16 years in May, adding to signs a recession in Europe's largest economy is bottoming out.

Meanwhile, G8 leaders prepared for their summit in Italy that begins today. Draft documents seen by Reuters stated they "significant risks remain to economic and financial stability" and may need further help.

Guitarist Jason Crigler is missing a year and a half of his life. Between the time when he recorded several tracks for his new CD, The Music of Jason Crigler, and the time when it was finally produced, he experienced a life-changing calamity, documented in the film Life. Support. Music.

It began when he was performing in a New York City club in 2004.

"I was on stage, and I had all this crazy stuff happening in my head, and I ran off stage," Crigler says. "Monica, my wife, was there and got an ambulance. That was it. For a year and a half, I don't remember anything."

Crigler had a brain hemorrhage caused by an Arteriovenous Malformation, or AVM — an abnormal collection of blood vessels in his brain. Only six months after his release from the hospital, Crigler, who had temporarily lost his ability to speak and walk, began to reteach himself how to play the guitar.

"I knew what to do; I just couldn't physically do it," he says. "It was painful, because my hands were so tensed up, like claws almost. I'm still working to get that open all the way. But I knew mentally what to do, and I could hear what to do. Physically doing it was the issue."

"The Books on the Shelf" is the only song on the album that deals specifically with Crigler's recovery. It was also the first song he wrote after leaving the hospital, as well as the only song he sings himself.

"Aside from physically relearning all the things I had to relearn," Crigler says, "there was the emotional baggage of, 'Can I do what I used to do? Can I play guitar? Can I write songs?' There's a lot of insecurity and emotional stuff, and this is the song that really helped me break through a lot of that and make me realize I can still do this."
